How to draw Zentangle Inspired Artwork

Blessed – one word that describes my experiences in 2019. Yes, there have been ups and downs, but I am extremely grateful for all the beautiful things that have happened last year. I have been meaning to write on the tragic incidents that our world is currently going through and the causes I support. But, let me start the year by counting blessings. 🙂

Over the last few years, I have come to realize that “Love” isn’t as abundant as I used to think. It is a privilege. To love and be loved is a privilege. If you grew up in a household with parents relentlessly, unconditionally nurturing you and in a community filled with laughter and freedom – then you are lucky. So count your blessings and be grateful. But don’t forget to pass on some of that love to the needy. Always remember that the world thrives on Kindness. On Compassion.

With that thought, I wish you all a fantastic new year. 🙂

As always, sharing with you progress pictures of my latest drawing.

Zentangle Inspired Artwork tutorial – I always draw the outline of the word with a pencil and then fill up space around it. Using negative spacing to highlight the word.

My resource to find tangle patterns is Pinterest. You can check my Pinterest board for more ideas – Zentangle. And then use floral illustrations if I find that the patterns make the artwork look too busy.

This artwork was made over a period of several days, only when my baby was asleep as he seems to have inherited the fascination with art supplies from me. Or maybe all babies are like that. I can barely draw a line without him trying to snatch the pen from me. 🙂

  2. Beautiful artwork, Raj. I’ve been meaning to try zentangles forever but haven’t gotten around to it. This year, for sure.
I love how you started this post. Indeed we must count our blessings. There’s not a day when I’m not grateful for everything I’m blessed with because it far outweighs the downs. Thank you for the beautifully expressed para! Wishing you happiness always!

  3. Oh yes, the world moves in kindness and compassion and for that thought this artwork is simply apt and beautiful.
Hahaha… what did you expect? You thought that lil baby will sit patiently and watch you draw? No, babies arent wired that way. 😀

    1. Hehehe I was actually hoping he would play with his toys instead of my art supplies 😅 Thank you

  4. Such a beautiful zentangle! And kudos to you for finding the time for art even with your little baby. I wouldn’t have thought that’s possible. You must be super woman or something 😉

  6. Oh yes, babies are always fascinated with our art supplies….be they human babies, or bird babies. 😛
I can’t bring out my artwork when my babies are out. Only once they are inside their cages, napping peacefully, can I sit and draw peacefully!

I am going to pay a visit to your Pinterest boards for more ideas, Raj. This one is spectacular!
