Love, She Needs | Kyrielle Poetry Form

What is Kyrielle? (source – Shadow Poetry).

Kyrielle is a French form of rhyming poetry written in quatrains (a stanza consisting of 4 lines), and each quatrain contains a repeating line or phrase as a refrain (usually appearing as the last line of each stanza). Each line within the poem consists of only eight syllables. There is no limit to the number of stanzas a Kyrielle may have, but three is considered the accepted minimum. Some popular rhyming schemes for a Kyrielle are: aabB, ccbB, ddbB, with B being the repeated line, or abaB, cbcB, dbdB.Mixing up the rhyme scheme is possible for an unusual pattern of: axaZ, bxbZ, cxcZ, dxdZ, etc. with Z being the repeated line. The rhyme pattern is completely up to the poet.

It took me a while to figure out the sequence, hopefully I have done justice to this beautiful poetry form.

Beyond glimmers of luxury,
where the sky is no more starry
rummaging through the sunburnt streets
nor jade or gold but love she needs.

Silver strings of her veil follow
shielding her eyes, deep yet hollow
mocked by destiny’s humdrum beats
nor jade or gold but love she needs.

On roads await a crowd – fickle
to click, to pry, and then babble
towards solitude takes her feet
nor jade or gold but love she needs.

  2. Oh I wasn't aware of what this firm is called, but I've always been a fan of this form of poetry, where the last line is repetitive. It makes for an impactful poetry.especially when you're trying to make a song like poem

  3. If I were to list some of the most clever writing during the challenge yours would be right there at the top. Amazing how you can put poetic thoughts in a format. Lovely.

  4. Why is it, I wonder, that three is considered the right amount f times for something to be repeated? It seems this way in humor as well, and in fairy tales. I wonder if the mind gets fatigued to hear repetition more than this many times.
