Bysomnus | A to Z of Zentangle Patterns | Tutorial

This April, I’m participating in the April A to Z Blogging Challenge with a creative twist -learning and sharing Zentangle patterns! Each day, I’ll explore a new pattern, uncovering its beauty and include it in my Zentangle-inspired artwork. At the end of the challenge, I hope to have a completed artwork with all the patterns I learned in this challenge. Join me on this artistic journey as I embrace mindfulness, creativity, and the joy of tangling!

Zentangle involves drawing a series of patterns, known as “tangles,” in an organized way. The process focuses on the act of creating, not the outcome, fostering a calming experience. Zentangle was developed by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas in 2003. Combining art, relaxation, and mindfulness, it was designed as a tool to help people unleash their creativity and reduce stress.

Day 2 of challenge B for Bysomnus

I am learning to draw Bysomnus. Bysomnus is a pattern created by Maria Tovar. It features a flowing, organic design that resembles a series of interwoven, curved lines, often forming a lattice structure. You can read more about this pretty tangle pattern here – Bysomnus.

This is my first time drawing this pattern, and I loved the symmetry

I love its beautiful symmetry and how it turns into a floral pattern. I felt Bysomnus will be great as a filler in the Zentangle-Inspired artwork. You can also draw this pattern as a mono-tangle.

Here’s a short video I created on Bysomnus zentangle tutorial. Don’t forget to like and subscribe for more drawing tutorials. 🙂

Zentangles are all about embracing imperfections and drawing without the use of an eraser. I mostly draw them freehand and consider any mistake an opportunity to create a new path.

  1. This is a lovely piece of art Raj. My little one and I saw the video you’ve shared and she was surprised how it all turned out in the end. We’ve been discussing art lately and she explored your blog and enjoyed it thoroughly. I love the intrinsic nature of this one.
