Hello there. I am still hung over my super short vacation by the seaside. Three nights at a beach house, watching sunsets in Jervis Bay, relaxing on white sandy beaches that have earned a name in Guinness Book and sleeping to the sound of sea roaring at night. A well-earned change of scene from my usual landlocked suburbian life … and cockatoos. Those loud loud cockatoos!
In the evenings, I would watch the Eastern sky turn from pink to purple as the sand mirrored the magic unfolding up above. The western side was drenched in deep tangerine.
The waves lapped at my feet, cold, and yet there’s something so reassuring about the rhythmic ebb and flow of the water. The noise in my head lulled by the sound of seagulls and sporadic laughter of my son playing in the soft flourlike sand.
Sunset at Callala Beach
Callala Beach is my new favourite beach in Jervis Bay. It is a less touristy spot, with the same white powdery sand that Jervis Bay is known for. Most beaches in Jervis Bay faces east, so the sunset skies I captured are all east facing.
Sunset at Huskisson
We had spent the morning watching Pelicans listlessly sail on the sparkling water of Jervis bay. We even spotted a local sting ray that often visits the area. We drove down to Huskisson to grab lunch and stayed there until evening, waiting for the sun to set.

Sunset at Hyams beach
I first visited Hyams beach in 2015. It looked pristine back then. I was a bit disappointed this time. I don’t know whether it was due to rains, but it was stinky too. Atleast the sunset looked fabulous.
The sea exudes a sense of eeriness after dark. I could hear the crashing of the waves from our beach house, two block away. The roar of the ocean can be overwhelming at night. So different from the silence that I am accustomed to. A moonlit cloudy night and the arm of the milky way right above our head added a bit of mystique to our nightly adventure.
In this liminal space between land and sea, light and shadow, the mysteries of the night feel like a fusion of magic and darkness.

My closet encounter to sunset at beach was in Goa. This post reminds me my serene moments back there.
