“The artist’s job is not to succumb to despair but to find an antidote for the emptiness of existence.”
― Woody Allen, Midnight in Paris: The Shooting Script
Lockdown has not been easy for many. And between work, family, and mischievous toddler, it is difficult to spare time to indulge in creative activities like drawing. I started doing Yoga Art series on Instagram in the hope to find the motivation to draw in spite of everything.
Using my yoga photos as inspiration, I drew these 5 yoga artworks over the past several weeks. I am planning to keep drawing these in the coming months. I mostly find time at night, after dinner when my little one goes to bed.
I like mixing different styles of drawing like pointillism/stippling, floral illustrations, and zentangle patterns in my artworks. Frankly, I simply go with the flow and let the pen guide me. In a sense, it does feel more like doodling.
I draw the boundary and the yoga pose with a pencil beforehand, and then fill up the insides directly with a pen.
As I have said many times – Art is Therapeutic. And I am sure many artists would agree. It feels like an accomplishment when I see my idea complete in front of me. These few minutes that I spend with my art materials gives me peace of mind I need before I end the day.
Here’s the inspiration behind four of the artworks.
Let me know which one you liked the most.
