The night before Christmas Party

“Red Carpet or Dress up as your favourite Hollywood actor/actress”

The official Christmas party invite with the above theme arrived 3 months ago. I accepted the invite and then it got lost among hordes of other emails, until last Monday when someone asked me what I was dressing up as. Well, that really shook me because I hadn’t even picked a dress. Sydney siders would know that all the shops here close by 6 pm, except on Thursdays, when they open till 10pm. And the party was on Friday. This was going to be a close call.

After digging out all my clothes, and some frantic calls to my sister, who without any hesitation told me that none of my clothes were party ready, I found one black dress that I hadn’t worn in over two years.

I was more worried about my hair. The next few days I scrolled through feed after feed on Pinterest and Instagram, looking for a hairstyle that was easy, stylish and could be done in a restroom packed with girls getting ready for the party. Yes, it gets very busy in here. My dress was plain, so the only thing I could do was get a fancy hairstyle or some fancy shoes.

I spent the Thursday evening with my Uncle’s family as it was my cousin’s birthday. By the time we reached home it was past midnight. As my husband got ready for bed, I made an emergency video call to my sister.

“I don’t have a hairstyle”, I cried as soon as my younger sibling came into view.

“Ufff Di, last moment again!”, after which she threw a set of instructions that, in my state of mind, felt like a puzzle. All I could understand was a curler and rubber band.

So she went ahead and started giving me a demo, and I followed.

At 2 am Sydney time, I was doing my hair, straightening and curling them, picking a lip color and learning how to apply blush. And most importantly, where to apply blush.

“Smile and apply the blush on the apples of the cheek”, she said.

I smiled.

Which one is the apple of the cheek“, I asked as I didn’t see any apple.
“Uff, apply above the hollow”

“What hollow, I don’t have any hollow. It’s all chubby cheeks”

“Idhar Idhar”, she showed me in the video.

My mother who was watching us from the background, said she was tired just listening to all the instructions.

“Go as you are, you are beautiful“, she said.

Mothers, they are so cute!

I could hear my husband sleeping soundly in the bedroom. So I quietly sneaked in there, got the shoes and showed it to my sister. That was the only thing she approved 100%. The plan was fixed. I was going to tie my hair in a high messy ponytail, straighten all the ones in the front, and curl the ones in the back. My eyes were burning when I woke up 3 hours later.

The mood in the office started turning electric in the afternoon. After Secret Santa and gift giving, the girls made a beeline for the restroom. I found a spot near the socket, plugged in my curler and started fixing my hair. Thankfully, I remembered all the instructions, but what I didn’t anticipate was the time it was going to take to curl the strands of my hair. Long hair problems!!

The temperature in the restroom hiked a few more degrees as more curlers were plugged in and the crowd started getting thicker. It took me around 20 minutes to set the hair. My arms had never ached this much even after push ups. Hairstyling is not for the weak!!

And finally I was ready.

The party was held at Madame Tussauds. It was a night filled with lots of laughter, drinking, dancing… and some really really bad singing!! Few even dressed up as their favourite characters.

Below you will find RedFoo, Flintstones, Elton John, Cleopatra 😀

Ever seen anyone this excited about a Fake Door  😛

Royalty!!

I found Flintstones!!

Who’s more waxy?

Which book would you like, Sir?
Btw, doesn’t my arm look toned? That’s because of all the hair curling I did.

Christmas party Madame Tussauds

I was so tired that I spent the whole weekend on a couch, watching movies.

Love it? Pin it.

  1. You look so pretty…I suck at make up..I hate putting even a simple foundation..whenever I have to go somewhere where I need to mandatory make-up I try to skip..I am the only woman who doesn’t have a make-up kit..I go through perpetual bad hair day…after reading your post, I miss having a sister..

  2. Hahaha…Raj! Apples, hollows…hehehe…that was simply hilarious! I so love the way you bring out the humour in everyday life!

  3. Looks like a lot of fun! I’ve never been to Madam Tussauds and most of my work Xmas parties are at pubs/bars. My Sat job just had theirs on Saturday at the Opera bar whereas my other one (full time one) is next Friday at Terrigal. Luckily we don’t have any themes! 😀

Also, you look amazing! Love the dress and what you’ve done with your hair 🙂
