Yoga Every Damn Day – As a part of A to Z April Blogging challenge, I am going to post a series of Yoga poses. Don’t worry I will keep it simple and crisp… and try not to make it boring.
Today’s Pose is Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Facing Dog) – that’s the inverted V pose you see below. I usually hold this pose for a few breaths, before flying one leg into the air, which then becomes Eka Pada Adho Mukha Svanasana (One legged Downward Facing Dog)
I do a repetition of these poses, as a warm up before my workout. Be careful with your wrists and elbows, don’t put too much pressure on it if you already have pain in those areas.
Eka Pada Adho Mukha Svanasana
The benefits are:
“Calms the brain and helps relieve stress and mild depression. Energizes the body. Stretches the shoulders, hamstrings, calves, arches, and hands. Strengthens the arms and legs. Helps relieve the symptoms of menopause. Relieves menstrual discomfort when done with the head supported. Helps prevent osteoporosis. Improves digestion. Relieves headache, insomnia, back pain, and fatigue. Therapeutic for high blood pressure, asthma, flat feet, sciatica, and sinusitis. Warms up the ankles and the toes.” – Source PocketYoga
All pictures are mine, clicked by my dear husband 🙂
What an amazing theme you have here. Looking forward 🙂
My sister does this one. 🙂
What a fun theme, Rajlakshmi and the photos are so impressive, you flexible thing, you! I have never tried yoga. Seems like there are so many different approaches to it. I like these animal poses you're doing. I don't think I'll try it though. I may never be able to get up after. LOL!
hehehe thank you so much Cathy. I am so glad you liked the post. These are simple but effective poses.
Wow! It sounds like this pose is a cure-all.
I did notice a definite spike in energy after doing it.

Thank you so much for writing in Varan 🙂 Glad you liked it.
These have become a favorite routine!! i add 2 more variations to the downward dog – the dog peeing pose (IYKWIM) where you bend sideways from the eka pada adho mukha svanasana and then i slowly breathe in, bending the leg towards inner torso touching nose to knee!! i forgot wat thats called!! thats my one fav routine and downward dog is a brill stretch to back too 😀 its my resting pose sometimes esp after plank :S

I have always found Yoga very intimidating. You make it seem simple and easy. That itself is a great accomplishment. Love the pics too.
