[Photo Blog]::Of Coorg & Golden Palace::

Hiyaa everyone. Finally I was able to strike off Coorg and Ooty from my “must visit ” list. 😀 Thanks to the long weekend.

Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery – also known as Golden Palace, situated in Kushalnagar, is the largest teaching center of Nyingmapa (a lineage of Tibetan Buddhism) in the world. (wiki)

I was very much surprised to find a Tibetian settlement in the southern parts of India. Nestled between Mysore and Coorg, this place is home to around 5000 lamas. Surrounded by sprawling green fields, the golden colored monastery shines from a distance. There are schools, hospital and nunnery too, the top of each building is painted in golden color – presenting an image of mini Tibet.

Stay tuned for more

  1. Bylakuppe is the largest Tibetan settlements in south India. The govt has given them land and administrative powers. They are self sustaining. The monastery is one of its kind, very beautiful isnt it?
