I love these gorgeous creation of nature. Intimidating yes, but aren’t they absolutely fascinating!!
I often come across them while bushwalking and they are quite common in Australia. My first tryst with water dragons was went I was calmly sitting on a rock, enjoying the view of the sea and blue skies, coaxing my husband to take one of those picture perfect travel photos.
So I sat there, with my hips swayed on one side, shoulders tiny bit tilted to hide flappy arms, fingers making the typical V sign. It was then I felt movement in the corner. Seems like I was obstructing the view of this big fella, who was lost in the milieu. My heart of course jumped out of my mouth as soon as I laid my eyes on his scaly skin.
But in the end I only ended up being an irritating Papparazzi, desperately chasing it to get the perfect shot. Up the rocks, into the foliage, braving cobwebs sticking to my face … not a pretty sight I tell you.
Seems they are pretty harmless shy creatures, if you ignore their scary scales.

why dont you have it as a pet 😉
You are much braver than me, Raji! How beautifully camoflagued that little fellow is.
You know I get scared to these creatures but looking at them facinates me… Your description makes the whole incidence even more beautiful!!!
Though I get scared of anything that looks like a lizard, still the picture looks nice and the way you have described the capturing of the perfect travel photo is hilarious 🙂

That looks like a giant lizard! I'm scared of all things with scales 😀
How awesome it is that you were able to get up close and personal with one. Sure glad he turned out to be harmless.

Anything that looks like a lizard I'd run away from 😛
OMG I am scared of all these things!!!
Anything that is called 'dragon' is awesome, in my opinion 😉

I would like them across some distance only. 😀
Whoa! That's a great shot! And glad that you could share here! <3
Unfortunately, we judge people also on their outer appearances…would love to see your picture with the spider web and all 🙂
never seen then but yes, I would be scared to see them for the first time 🙂
Scaly creatures give me the shivers to some extent, though am fascinated by them 🙂

You sound just like me, I'd be chasing after the perfect photo too! Wish I could see some lizards in the UK. The closest I've got is a grass snake, which I was still very pleased with.
Beautiful and a bit scary, we have similar ones called 'goo' in the local language.
well written, but im scary
YIkes Me scared of them
Gosh! I can't stand these creatures, I am terrified of all kinds of creepy-crawlies! You caught is great on the camera!

as long as its not a snake, i am ok with all.
Brave you are Raj. I am very scared of them or rather I scare them more.Either way I tend to scream on looking at them:P
That was a great capture…you're brave enough to try out all those paparazzi moves btw 🙂
most of them scary looking ones are really shy and wont attack unless attacked first..
Such scaly creepy fellas are not my friends and my shrieks could give them heart attacks! 😀
It like rather scared itself. Great shot Raj.
Goshh nice post but I am wont to run away more than chase one of them 🙂 Pretty from afar for sure and well done with the paparazzi attempt 🙂

A beautiful creature indeed. Great job photographing it, even if you did have to perform a few papparazi moves! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Keep rocking the A to Z!
